Tips for Increasing JBQ Team Proficiency

Over the years, I’ve discovered some successful ways to make our Junior Bible Quiz teams become more effective and competent during JBQ competition. Check out my suggestions and see if any of these tips can help your team compete in the upcoming year of JBQ competition.

Steps to Building a JBQ Budget

JBQ should be an integral part of the children’s ministry of your church. When you and your leadership are on the same page, there is mutual support in your ministries. This includes financial support from the pastor and the church for JBQ. It’s important to communicate with your pastor. Be sure your leadership is aware of your vision and aspirations for JBQ, and be specific in sharing your plans with your pastor so he can demonstrate support. An uninformed pastor cannot possibly support you with time or money.

Get the BIG POINT Across Using JBQ Fact Pak

Gone are the days where kids can be expected to remember a three-point sermon. Most children (and adults) need one big point to walk away with. One of the things that has worked wonders in our kids’ church is combining the big point with the JBQ Bible Fact Pak.

The Heart of JBQ

The heart behind JBQ—the reason all 576 questions were written in the first place—was because leaders in the Assemblies of God feared a time when children would become biblically illiterate. There was initially no goal of taking teams to a national competition. because they were concerned with what would happen if kids associated winning and losing with the Word of God. So let’s go back to the heart of JBQ by implementing 10 steps that will reinforce the true “heart of JBQ.”

After the Quizzing Ends

The JBQ quizzing season is over, and the National JBQ Festival has come and gone. Teams have put away their quiz boxes for the summer and are waiting to restart in the fall. For the sixth graders, their JBQ career is over. Some will move on to TBQ [Teen Bible Quiz] while others get involved in other church, school, and/or athletic activities. So now what?

Tragedy to Triumph

When the Guardians of the Gospel, the Junior Bible Quiz (JBQ) team from First at Firewheel church in Garland, Texas, won the 32nd national JBQ championship held June 8-10 at Trinity Church in Cedar Hill, Texas, it may have very well marked the “comeback” story of the year.
