What if the lessons we teach on Sunday could be reinforced on a Tuesday evening, before school on Thursday, or during a long drive on a Saturday? The potential for lifelong learning is reduced if we believe Sunday is the only day for children’s ministry. We need to be strategic in moving beyond Sunday to create true disciples.
I think for many who teach children, we just teach kids the Bible and about Jesus and it sticks to them like paint. It might stick for a long time or it might stick for a short while, but in the end, it doesn’t actually change them inside. It just appears as if they have been changed.
Building a disciple is a process that requires a vision and a solid plan. I first set my vision by defining what I wanted a first-grade child to be when they turned 21. What values should they have grasped? What impact do we want them to make in our church, community, and world? That vision became my goal.
